Tour de Nuit Society
Tour de Nuit is Alberta’s applied research and cycling promotion organization with a mission to get 'more people cycling more often'
Founded in 2009 and named after the famous cycling event, Un Tour la Nuit, is a member-based independent cycling promotion group whose unique focus is experiential education for the general public. We also conduct applied research and have an active stakeholder relations program.
There are two key components of our experiential education program. The Ride the Road tour, inspired by Montreal's tour la nuit is modeled on London's Sky Ride. Recently we partnered with Canada's only professional stage race and it is the Calgary family ride for the Tour of Alberta. It was the impetus for Calgary's cycle track network.
The SE Enduro Commute is hosted by two members of the legislative assembly and it highlights cycling strategies for long distance commuters. This ride is meant to be held in late winter or early spring.
Our research program has included a business analysis of a municipal bike share or rent system, risk mapping of several variables on downtown roads, a highway road shoulder safety study, among others. The business analysis was conducted by SCiP interns their presentation resulted in a three million dollar tax saving for Calgary ratepayers. The safety project was led by a SCiP intern.
