This individual will help mentor participants in The Herd Audio Storytelling Challenge, and coordinate the event. It is an annual storytelling challenge, inviting new and experienced audio producers to make a 3-minute story on the year's theme. This intern will work from CJSR (Edmonton's campus and community radio station) together with CJSR's News Coordinator and Herd co-founder Sarah Hoyles.

This position may involve some travel to lead audio storytelling workshops in 1-2 other cities in Alberta, depending on funding.

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Web Design and Development
  • English
  • Communications
  • Journalism
  • Radio, Film & Television

Some specialized skills required:

  • Experience in web design/editing is an asset
  • Experience using Tumblr & SoundCloud is an asset
  • Experience interviewing for radio is required
  • Experience in audio recording or editing required
  • Prior experience volunteering with CJSR is an asset

What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:

  • Update The Herd website and SoundCloud feed with contest details and audio works
  • Plan and present audio storytelling workshops for participants
  • Produce a sample audio work
  • Coordinate broadcasting plan/roll-out with partner stations
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities and possible prizing for participants
