We 'rescue' local urban fruit from within the city and then use it to make jams, jellies and condiments. We are looking for someone with a Safe Food Handling certificate to manage our kitchen every Thursday. This is where we receive and prepare the fruit by washing it, chopping it and then freezing it for use later in the year. Some fruit is immediately turned into juice for later use in making jelly or adding to our products.
There will be a couple of volunteers to assist each day and your job will be to make sure that safe food handling processes are followed, volunteers stay safe and the final products are safely stored for later use. You will set up the kitchen, manage the work and workers and assure that all is tidied up and put away at the end of the shift. There will be training and supervision for the first couple of weeks and then you will be on your own for the day.
This is a great opportunity to learn about local fruit and how to store it for later use. There is also a great possibility that you will also be able to make jams toward the end of the project. Again this will be with training and supervision.
Ideal for someone with course work in:
- Culinary Kitchen Skills
- Culinary Careers

- An inventory list will be kept of all products prepared and where they are stored.
- Will be present for all scheduled Thursdays from mid June to end of September.
