The Lethbridge Twinning Society is a non-profit grass-roots citizens organization dedicated to promote friendship and understanding between Lethbridge and its "Twin Cities". We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator Intern to assist our executive board in coordinating our existing volunteers as well as recruitment. The individual must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an affinity to work with a variety of people from all walks of life. This position requires an individual who can work well within a team and independently with minimal supervision. As this is a multi-faceted role, candidates must demonstrate exceptional time management skills, attention to detail, self-motivation and professionalism.

Some specialized skills required:

  • Attention to detail
  • Outgoing and energetic personality who is comfortable communicating in person, over the phone and online
  • Some events planning/marketing experience is an asset
  • Works well independently
  • Familiarity with social media outlets
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Excel in administrative computer skills
  • Excellent writing skills

What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:

  • Work with the board to recruit volunteers by using a variety of methods such as networking, social media, local media and community meetings
  • Review volunteer position descriptions in consultation with board as appropriate
  • Screen volunteers, including interviewing candidates, conducting background checks and verifying references.
  • Develop and implement an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualifications and interest of the volunteers and the needs of Lethbridge Twinning Society
  • Create Schedules as required, with input and direction from the board and Event Coordinator
  • Schedule volunteers into allotted time slots
  • Work with the Event Planner and Event Coordinator to ensure adequate volunteer coverage and appropriate placement of volunteers.
  • Assist the board in coordinating volunteer orientations and training sessions prior to the event to increase understanding of the Lethbridge Twinning Society, and the roles and responsibilities of the volunteers
  • Be the primary contact for volunteers
  • Ensure that volunteers receive the appropriate level of supervision and support
