APIRG has a collection of books, magazines and independent zines, roughly 300 items in total, related to various social and environmental justice issues. We are looking for a summer intern to aid us in rejuvenating our library in the following ways:

  • Assist staff and board with auditing and reorganizing the library

  • Developing an optimal organization system for print media

  • Develop an online catalogue and user interface for searching, borrowing and returning books through a dedicated library software provider

  • Develop links with other independent, progressive libraries in Alberta, through catalogue sharing, pop-up libraries and resource sharing

  • Advertise and promote the use of the library on and off campus, and encourage book donation

  • Source new print and digital media that suits our mandate and budget

APIRG board members and staff will be available to support the intern in all aspects of the project. While most tasks will require the intern’s presence on-site, some work can be done remotely.

Accessibility

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Database Administration
  • Library & Information Studies (Crse)

Some specialized skills required:

  • basic web development and technological proficiency, familiarity with APIRG and local community organizations

  • Experience within non-profit organizational structure
