Synergy is a registered charitable organization serving Chestermere, Langdon, and SE Rocky View, which believes that by offering youth (ages 10 – 17+) weekly opportunities to engage in both volunteerism and positive leadership development programming, flourishing communities for the future are ensured.
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate team member to assist in planning and coordinating joint focus groups between Synergy and the Calgary Centre for Sexuality. This team member will be the primary point of contact for Calgary Centre for Sexuality, as well as local community members, with the assistance of the Synergy Program Coordinator. The partnership between Synergy and Calgary Centre for Sexuality is seeking to develop focus groups of youth and adults in order to assess what the community of Chestermere, Langdon and surrounding area needs from a GSA (Gay, Straight Alliance). The ideal candidate will successfully coordinate with Calgary Centre for Sexuality contacts, seek out participants for the focus groups, distribute promotional materials, and be the point person for questions from the community. This position includes facility preparation, coordination, and relationship building. These focus groups are to be a safe, non-judgmental place for community members to discuss what they need from a GSA in terms of content, format, and support.
The GSA Focus Groups Coordinator will work with the support Program Coordinator to provide a safe engaging space to host the focus groups, to engage community members to attend and participate, and connect with the Calgary Centre for Sexuality and members of the community.
Ideal for someone with course work in:
- Social Work
- Health and Human Services Management
- Community Mental Health
- Child and Youth Care Counsellor
Some specialized skills required:
- Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
- Excellent Communication Skills
- Strong Organizational Skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office
What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:
- • Coordinated with interested professional and community parties to engage community members to attend and participate in the Focus Groups
- • Promoted the Focus Groups across the community
- • Successfully have coordinated 1-4 GSA Focus Groups with the Calgary Centre for Sexuality
