The Works International Visual Arts Society presents The Works Art & Design Festival: 13 days of art and design exhibits, special events, music, workshops, and family programming. Attracting artists, designers and visitors from all around the world, this city-wide event boosts the energy and imagination of downtown Edmonton at the start of every summer. Free to the public, The Works strives to create barrier free access to art and design. The festival dates this year are June 20 to July 2, 2019.

Take part in producing North America’s largest outdoor art and design festival. Exhibit Assistants may take on a range of construction and/or installation projects. Assist the production crew in building temporary art exhibits to withstand all weather conditions and hundreds of thousands of footsteps. Learn how to handle and install artwork professionally. Afterwards, assist staff in dismantling the festival.

Responsibilities include:

  • Following correct safety procedure while on duty
  • Installing and prepping walls for artwork installation
  • Handling, hanging, and re-packaging artwork

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Construction Technology
  • Theatre Production
  • Arts and Cultural Management
  • Visual Arts and Design
  • Fine Art

Some specialized skills required:

  • experience with power and hand tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to lift at least 30lbs
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:

  • Contribute to vital festival infrastructure
  • Preparing professional art exhibits for the public
