The Programming Assistant works directly with permanent gallery staff. The Programming Assistant will assist with the installation and strike of exhibitions, and will communicate with the general public, gallery visitors, and partner organizations.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong interest in and knowledge of contemporary art, art history, and artist-run culture. Skills for this position include experience working with power tools, and experience with Mac OSX software. Additionally, the candidate will exhibit a keen attention to detail, be self-motivated and willing to learn, and have strong problem-solving and communication skills. Training specific to the role will be provided.

Some specialized skills required:

  • Experience working with artists
  • Knowledge of contemporary art, art history, and artist-run culture
  • Basic knowledge of power tools and painting

What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:

  • Communicate with gallery staff, volunteers and patrons about exhibits and programs
  • Assist with the installation and strike of exhibits
  • Develop understanding of gallery maintenance and exhibition preparation
  • Develop knowledge relating to non-profit and artist-run culture
