The Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC) is recruiting a Communications Intern to provide communications support to projects that ESCC manages such as the Seniors Information Phone Line, Connecting Edmonton Seniors and Seniors Home Supports Program.


The intern will work under the supervision of the ESCC Communications Coordinator. This is an ideal opportunity for a student to learn and practice duties required of a communications professional, be exposed to industry best-practices, and learn software/tools and processes employed by communications professionals.



  • Write stories and announcements for blogs and newsletters; pitch stories to the media
  • Create promotional material such as posters, ads, fact sheets, FAQ sheets, infographics, web images, magnets
  • Create content (text and images) for social media
  • Develop a communications plan to share information with stakeholders
  • Update websites using various content management systems (training will be provided on WordPress and ShoutCMS)


About ESCC

The Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC) manages projects which focus on isolated seniors, immigrant seniors, recreation and wellness for older adults, home supports, Age Friendly Edmonton, transportation, and access to information on supports for seniors. The ESCC also acts as a communications hub for the Edmonton seniors sector and facilitates resource-sharing.

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Communication
  • Public Relations

Some specialized skills required:

  • Advanced writing and editing skills
  • Understanding of graphic design principles
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Able to establish rapport when meeting people and build effective working relationships
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop or willingness to learn
