The Works International Visual Arts Society presents The Works Art & Design Festival: 13 days of art and design exhibits, special events, music, workshops, and family programming. Attracting artists, designers and visitors from all around the world, this city-wide event boosts the energy and imagination of downtown Edmonton at the start of every summer. Free to the public, The Works strives to create barrier free access to art and design. The festival dates are June 21 to July 3, 2018.

The 2018 festival theme Paradigm embraces socially engaged practices, collaborative artworks, and artworks involving research, considering the foundations, assumptions, and reinterpretations of the everyday . Artist assistants will work closely with a presenting artist to develop a large-scale artwork for the 2018 festival. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with an established artist to realize a major festival project. Relying on visual art experience, the intern will take on aspects of the art making process, including research, preparing materials, and assembling or developing artwork at the artist's direction. 
  • installing and dismantling artwork

This internship will run March through July, 2018. Interns will work at the festival site, The Works main office in McCauley, and possibly at the home or studio of exhibiting artists. The expected time commitment is 80 to 100 hours.

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Theatre/Production
  • Fine Arts

Some specialized skills required:

  • Experience with power and hand tools is an asset
  • Willingness to work outside and in all weather conditions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:

  • Install and dismantling artwork
