The Works International Visual Arts Society presents The Works Art & Design Festival: 13 days of art and design exhibits, special events, music, workshops, and family programming. Attracting artists, designers and visitors from all around the world, this city-wide event boosts the energy and imagination of downtown Edmonton at the start of every summer. Free to the public, The Works strives to create barrier free access to art and design. The festival dates are June 21 to July 3, 2018.

Take part in producing North America’s largest outdoor art and design festival. Assist the production crew in erecting the infrastructure necessary to withstand all weather conditions and hundreds of thousands of footsteps. Learn how to handle and install artwork professionally. Afterwards, assist staff in dismantling the festival.

Responsibilities include:

  • Following correct safety procedure while on duty
  • Handling, hanging, and re-packaging artwork
  • Installing walls, tents and other temporary infrastructure

The expected date range for this internship is March through July, with hours peaking directly before and after festival. Intern must have some daytime, evening and weekend availability. The majority of this internship will take place on the festival site.

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Trades (Vocational)
  • Fine Arts
  • Arts and Cultural Studies
  • Arts Administration/Management
  • Architecture

Some specialized skills required:

  • Experience with power and hand tools is an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift at least 30lb
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
